Tough, Crazy, but Uber Rad Week

Familia!

Well another week from the TSAM. And another week from Serenada. It was a challenging week, full of trying to find people to teach and also trying to become better missionaries filled with the Spirit.

We worked hard this last week. A lot of knocking because we have nobody to teach. We're not having too much success, but we are switching up things of how we present the message and inviting people to act.

We are still teaching Bill, and he still has a date for the 23rd, but we will probably be switching that to a later day because he isn't really keeping commitments. We met with him twice this last week. They were great lessons filled with the Spirit. He is reading the Book of Mormon, but he didn't make it to conference yesterday. It was a downer when he didn't show up any of the three times that we invited him. He planned on coming to the first session on Saturday morning, and we got a call from his girlfriend saying that they weren't going to make it but that they were going to come tomorrow morning. So we were like OK that's fine. And we planned on having him there on Sunday.

Well, we get there and he never shows up and we called him like 3 times and he didn't answer our phone calls. So after the morning session we went over to see what happened and they had a family emergency, which was fine with us of course. We then invited him to come to the 3 o'clock session, and waited for him again, but he never came. It was pretty frustrating and a big bummer because of how legit those conference talks were. They were way powerful and the Spirit was strong in every session. It was the bomb to be a missionary and be ready for that. It was great!

We also found a new guy named Scott. He is 21 and has a little Mexican in him. We taught him the restoration and he loved it and we committed him to read from the Book of Mormon and he accepted. We invited him to General Conference but he bailed on us too. We are meeting with him on Thursday this week and will probably pass him on the the Singles Ward after that.

This week has been a good week. One of the greatest things that has happened was in our companionship studies we read a talk from 1961. It is called a "Testifying Challenging Missionary". It is an amazing talk that just talks about how to be a better missionary and how to have more success. We read it and are working at applying it. So that is why I said we are changing things up as we contact people and teach lessons. We are bearing testimony more and are committing more. We still need greater faith to have success with it, but we are working on it and the faith will come.

It's challenging up in this area. People don't want to talk to us. There are a lot of hardcore Baptists that just see us and slam the door. It's tough because we want to have a huge teaching pool and we want to have a baptism this transfer because this area really needs one for the member confidence and just because there are people here that need to hear the gospel and be baptized and be faithful members of the church. But we are for sure being guided by the Spirit.

We had an experience today, actually, that was super sweet and guided by the Lord. Last week we had a girl call us out of the blue and she wanted to meet with us. We were pumped and we found out where she lives and found out that we had to give her to the other elders in Georgetown. We did, and we didn't think about it. They in turn passed her on the the Singles Ward Elders (where I just came from) and went from there. As we talked to the Georgetown Elders they had an appointment set up and they told us it fell through. She never showed and the Singles Ward Elders never showed. So we just didn't think about it.

Today, Elder Roland and I wanted to use iTunes. The library that I'm at right now doesn't allow us to do that. So we decided to go to Southwestern University, which is in Georgetown, and try it out. So we did, it was a weird feeling at first because it is a Methodist school, but we didn't care. We went to their library and they had computers that we could use and so we started to use them. When we got there and sat down, there was this girl at another table that just kept eyeing us the whole time. We didn't think anything of it, we just figured that it was because we were Mormon missionaries at a Methodist University. But, when we were leaving she followed us out and was like "Excuse me, I'm Christina. I called you guys last week." And so we got into a conversation, and it turns out that she met with the Singles Ward missionaries down at the Stake center that day, that she is a member, and she hasn't been active for 5+ years.

We asked her why she called us and she said that she was prompted to do it and that she did it before she chickened out. But the point of this story is that we were guided by the Spirit to go to Southwestern University to meet her and find out that she was a member and that she met with the other elders last week. It was a sweet experience, because we almost gave up going to email there today, but in turn we met her. The spirit is guiding us. We just need to pay more attention when finding people to teach.

Well I think that is about it. I love you all! Have a good week!

Elder Harvey

P.S. Tell Bishop that I got his letter, and that I'm excited for him to take us to dinner or lunch. Tell him that the best day would probably by Monday the 11th if that is possible, and for lunch too. But if not then another day works great. Also tell him that our number is 512-791-2314, and I look forward to seeing them.
