Baptism

Family,

Well another week has gone by here in the Riverside Ward.

We baptized this week! Here are some pictures of us. The family that we baptized, they used to live in our area and they were taught by Elder Sherwood and his past companion, then Elder Sherwood and I taught them a couple of times, but they moved out of our area 2 or 3 weeks ago and into the Sister's area. Same Ward but a different area and so the Sisters took over. They are the sweetest family ever. I baptized Cesar (Dad), Elder Sherwood baptized Linda (Mom) and Elder James (Elder Sherwood's last companion) baptized the daughter. Linda is very converted to the church. Cesar her husband has changed a lot. I guess at first he didn't want anything to do with it, and would never listen, but he has changed and, as you can see, got baptized yesterday. It was a great service! It was fun to baptize them too because the little time that I got to know them I had a lot of love for them.

We actually took Linda to a lesson with us on Friday. She was perfect in it! She said everything that we could have asked her to say to our investigator. The spirit bore witness of all the things that we were talking about, yet the investigator still kind of denied it. She is reading from the Book of Mormon and she likes it, but won't take the step of coming to church. I thought it was very interesting to me, and opened my eyes about the Hispanic culture a little bit. Linda personally invited this investigator to her wedding (which was on Saturday), to church on Sunday, and to her baptism. This investigator was just like "Okay, yeah, thanks" but didn't come. It is real sad, and to me kind of rude, to just throw a personal invite under the table and ignore it. It's real tough to get the Hispanic culture to do things... But we can't do much until they are ready and willing.

We did have an investigator come to church for the first time. His name is Gustavo. He was found about 3 or 4 weeks ago by the English speaking Elders. The story is that like a day before they knocked on his door, he was thinking about the Book of Mormon and how he wants to learn more about it. And then "boom" - one day later they knock on his door and talk to him, and that night we went by and gave him a Book of Mormon and have been teaching him since. He also loves the Book of Mormon. He is reading it and has a lot of questions about it. He liked church a lot we think (at least that is what he told us) and we are going back this week to meet with him. We invited him to be baptized the last lesson, and he said that he needs to know more before he makes that commitment. So it was very good that he came to church and I know he felt the spirit.

That was about all the people that we taught this last week. A lot of our appointments fell through, which is always a tough go. But we are working hard and trying to find new people to teach. We are waiting for that elect person that we find that just loves everything we teach and believes it and is ready to be baptized. This is the week to find them!

Have a good week, love you all!

Elder Harvey
