Well another week has gone by and I can't really remember what we did this week. We had Zone Conference on Wednesday which was a good thing. We talked a lot about the Savior and how we need to be bold as missionaries. It really helped me out obviously as I am going through a rough time. It's always a confidence/work booster to talk about the Savior and what he teaches. We are starting as a mission to change the way we teach. Take for example inviting everyone to be baptized on the first lesson. It isn't really anything new to Preach My Gospel but as a mission and missionaries we haven't been applying it and we have been waiting to invite people. But now we are inviting everyone. I think this last week alone we invited 6 people to be baptized. The great thing about that is that it determines the elect and the non-elect. And as missionaries we are searching for the elect, the people that are ready to accept the Gospel and act upon it. Out of those 6 people that we invited zero of them came to church and actually acted upon the spirit that they felt, which was real disappointing, and we probably will just drop all of them, but that's how you do it in the Spanish Wards. You go through people like crazy until you find the people that are going to act upon the feelings and the teachings.
Pretty much the only person that we have right now that is somewhat progressing is Gustavo. We have been talking for a long time now. But in the last month he has finally stepped up his game and begun reading the Book of Mormon. He has read all the way to Helaman once and read 1 Nephi and 2 Nephi twice. He tells us that he is changing and seeing blessings from it. We haven't committed him with a specific baptismal date, which doesn't bother me, because the other day he was telling us that he'd received an answer but doesn't want to tell us until after he's done with the Book of Mormon. We thought about it and decided he wouldn't want to meet with us if he didn't know it is true. So without saying that he knows it is true, he said that it is true. So I'm not worried about him getting baptized. He will get baptized here in the coming months, and it is pretty much on his time to change and do the things that are necessary to become a solid member of the church.
My new role as a District Leader is going good. I wish I could just be a normal missionary though and just do the work and not have to worry about other missionaries. I call them every night to see what they did and what happened in their day and then to see if there is anything I can help them with. It's been good though. I think it has helped me grow a lot so that I can be more the example that I need to be and that our area can be the example area. We are just trying to find people that we can teach on a normal basis. Also as a District Leader I gather numbers every week and give them to the Zone Leaders, I conduct and lead District Meetings, and my District relies on me for anything that they need pretty much. So it's good.
Thanks for sharing the story about listening to the spirit. It is a testimony grower always when we follow the promptings.
Yes Elder Berntson is back in the field. I talked to him at Zone Conference the other day, he is here in South Austin, in a smaller town called Kyle. I don't know where exactly he is. But he is glad to be back and going at it again. He will probably come home with me because he was home for about a transfer and I was a transfer behind him. That kid is a stud!
Here are a couple of pictures for you Dad. As you know it is Pho. Here close to the church is about 3 or 4 Vietnamese restaurants. We went to the best one. It was about two weeks ago. I went with Elder Sherwood. It was really good Pho!
Well that is about it for this week.
I love you all!
Elder Harvey
