Well it's already May. It's crazy how the time in the moment seems to take forever but when you look back, it seems like it was just a day or so. Mother's Day is next week. I only have 45 minutes to talk. I would love to call Grandma and Grandpa, it would just take out of the time to talk to you all. But it is real short time and so I don't know if I will be able to talk to everyone. I guess we will see when it gets to that point. I plan on calling at like 8:15 here, so 7:15 there. I look forward to talking to you!
So I had no idea that I owed Kate and Tay a letter. I think that I will be able to get to it today. I will see what I can do.
Things are going great here in Marble Falls. We aren't near any fires or storms or even tornadoes.. We haven't heard too much of them while proselyting and so I take it they are pretty far away from us.
My companion is great, Elder Frei. He is so funny and we have a good time. Being out only a transfer is hard sometimes just because he is still trying to get the hang of it and not being a robot missionary. But we all have challenges with that sometime in our mission and so he will get out of it. We work pretty well together in unity, just sometimes there is a change of topic and they get confused a little bit and so we have some hard things to work out. But the great thing is that we don't hate each other and we aren't bickering all the time which is the good thing with a new companion. But I'll tell you what, he is for sure from St. George. He talks that place up a whole lot. It's great! ha ha. Here is a picture of us...
The ward here is different from any other ward. I think it might be my worst ward for feeding us that is for sure. Our calender is pretty empty and the families that do sign up sign up like 4 times a month. But I am finding happiness here. There is a lot of potential here in this area, and it begins with the members and us working hard. The tough thing about it all is that the ward is very, very old. It is mostly old people and not very many young families. There is a lot of less-actives and in-actives which is tough. Plus the fact that the area is huge, a lot of them are hard to get to. Take for example we were out in a town called Lago Vista, which is 45 minutes for us away and they are 15 minutes away from a different chapel in the other direction but they come to Marble Falls. And then if we go the other direction from Marble Falls, there is a town that is 60 minutes away. It is just a big geographic area that we cover and that the ward is in and so it is hard to get people to church if we work in the surrounding cities. But I am for sure loving this area and will love it as the time goes on. Like I said there is a lot of potential here that we have even ran into this last week..
We have been hitting less-actives and in-actives like crazy here. The great thing about them is that they aren't hostile to the missionaries. They will listen or they will just tell us they aren't interested in a nice way and we will go on our way. I remember in Serenada there were so many "Do Not Contacts" that were hostile and would threaten us and what not. Here they are nice. We are actually working with 3 of them right now. One family we visited the other day and had a real good talk with them. The reason why they don't come to church is mainly because of the distance and also they said they truly don't know if the Book of Mormon is true. Obviously we challenged them to study it and pray about it, and the great thing is that we are going over this Saturday to help them re-model their house. They are painting the walls and putting new floors in. So it was perfect that I know how to paint right?
The other family that we are working with we met them last night. They have a kid that is not baptized as well and they have the desire to come back to church, which is great. We had a really good talk with them and at the end we challenged them to let us teach them and help them prepare for a temple marriage. They gladly accepted, and so we are going to start teaching them so that they can understand. They are not knowledgeable in the Gospel and she is from Mexico so I get to practice my Spanish at the same time.
We have really seen the Lord bless us this last week, having some success with in-actives and less-actives. Plus we have some investigators that are still progressing towards baptism. Still just trying to get to the point where we are baptizing every week. It is very possible here in Marble Falls and we know we can do it with our hard work, faith and help of the members.
I will talk to you in a week. Love you all!
Elder Harvey
