Family,
What is going on?
It was good to talk to everyone on Sunday. I'm glad I got to talk to everyone and see how life was going, cuz it is going good here.
Well first off, I am staying here. They called last night and were like, "I bet you aren't surprised that you are staying there." I was like, "Yeah, I'm not". Me and my companion are both staying here in the area and then he will probably leave next transfer and I will stay for two more I bet. So we will see. I'm excited to stay here and get to know the area and grow to love the ward members and investigators here. It will be sweet.
So that package that you guys are getting together send it to the address that is on Parmer Ln. Still send the X-factor to the office in San Antonio. I could also use some stamps if you want to put them in there. Hopefully you haven't sent it yet to San Antonio cuz I won't get it for a month if it goes there.
So a sweet experience I had this last week. Here in the McNeil Ward they have started a 40-day fast thing. My companion and his last companion (the one that had to go home for surgery) started it. They passed around a sheet that families could sign up for to feed us and to fast that same day and we could go talk to them and see how things were going. It has been going pretty good. They could either fast for missionary work, or whatever they wanted pretty much, just as long as they fasted. This one family, he is probably late 20's and so is she. He served a mission in Italy and talked about it quite a bit when I met him - it was pretty sweet. But anyways, for the past year he hasn't eaten a thing. He was able to eat like a spoon full of high calorie stuff but that is it. Everytime he would eat he would get super sick. They said it was way weird and it was pretty much like his stomach had just given up. They said that stomach replacements are not fun and a lot of people die and they can't just replace the stomach they have to do the throat and all, so it is tough.
So just imagine not eating for a whole year. I guess he lost a lot of weight but then gained like 20 back taking spoonfuls of that stuff. But we went over there the other night just on random, and we wanted to see how he was doing. They said that he has been doing great. About two weeks ago is when they started this thing and I think the ward had a big fast for him and he said that since like a week after they did that, he has been able to eat crackers and other stuff - just light stuff - and not been getting sick. He said it is like a miracle. That, pretty much, he had given up on life and now he feels like he has been given a second chance. It was just amazing and a huge testimony builder listening to him and his wife. Because, like seriously, for a year he hasn't eaten. I don't know how that is possible but it is. So it strengthened my testimony of fasting and prayer because it was a miracle for him to be the way he is now. I guess he had a test to see if his stomach had given up and stopped working, but they found out that it is still working. It is a relief because now it is just something wrong with his intestines. But yeah family, if you ever need anything and someone is going through a rough time just remember this story and how fasting coupled with mighty prayer is amazing and can produce miracles. Check out Alma 6:6, it is a sweet scripture about fasting and prayer and why we should do it oft.
Also tonight we go and have a meeting with a guy named Wess. I don't think I have talked about him, so I will a little bit. He is older and we knocked into him and taught him the first lesson/answered his questions. Then my companion and my district leader went back a week later and I guess just had a serious discussion and stuff and there was a smart doctrinal member with them that helped, but I guess that he is just setting the missionaries up to catch us in our words, and to prove to us that the Mormon church goes against what the Book of Mormon says and that we are not the true church. So tonight if he still is like that we will probably drop him and stuff. I hope that he can open his heart and see that it is true. I guess he said that he doesn't want to pray to see if it is true because he doesn't want to tempt god. Yeah crazy I know. But, just pray for him to open his heart for us tonight and I will let you know how it goes next week.
To answer your questions Dad, we have a member usually feed us dinner at nights, and we feed ourselves lunch everyday. We are allowed 120 dollars a month but I haven't got any money cuz I don't have a card yet. They are supposed to get me one here in a couple of days so we will find out. I think that it is enough.
I might be sending you guys a UT (University of Texas) flag. I already bought one for myself. It is crazy. I have been here for 2 weeks and I already feel like I am a UT (Longhorn) fan. Ha - it is sweet!
I think that is it for this week. I haven't taken many pictures but I will try this upcoming week. Hope everything goes well this week. I love you all.
Love,
Elder Harvey
