Family,
Well 4 weeks are now past. I think that they are speeding up but Istill don't know. It is good to hear everyone is doing good. I hope ya'll have a fun trip in Wyoming. Tell Grandma and Grandpa I love them and hopefully Grandma gets feeling better. Did you guys get an RV? I take it you didn't since you aren't all going up together. But it will be fun.
This week...
I general contracted my first project. Me and my companion helped a member in the ward build an awning. If I would have come up with the plans and what not I would have done it right, but I don't think he wanted to spend more money then the basic. We didn't do a stud every 16 or like 24 whatever it is for awnings because we only had 5. So it was iffy standing on the roof while we were putting on the shingles. We did this on a tuesday and it took 8 hours. It was pretty sweet, cuz I felt like a general because I was pretty much the engineer and the one that knew what to do. So yeah that is cool..
This week was pretty tough for us to teach people. We had probably like 5 or more return appointments that all fell through. They all canceled on us so that was pretty tough. Greg and Beth called the night before and we haven't heard from them. Wess canceled and I think we will try to go over there tomorrow. Another guy we found, Calvin, rescheduled then we didn't make it over there because of our car. (I will tell you in a minute) Another girl we met that has talked to the missionaries before - Brooke, didn't answer her door and I heard her shoosh her dog. Angie a sweet black lady wasn't home either. It was rough but we did find a new family.
But anyways about our car... So on Saturday we went early in the morning to help Bro Brandon Michael Davis, the black ex-special ops marine with the gun that has the marks in them, to move some stuff around in his garage and to eat some food. And that was good we got a free weight bench from him, and some weights, so we are pretty pumped about that. But after we were with him we went back to our apartment and we ate lunch and started to drive to an appt that we had with Calvin. Our car broke down twice and the second time it wouldn't start back up. So we called and were figuring out what to do with it and finally at like 5:30 we got it towed to a dealership way out of our area, but we didn't have a ride back. We called the sisters and they were on their way to dinner but they picked us up and we were given a dinner from one of their member families. A mighty fine, it was way good, kind of like an In-n-Out Burger.
So after that we came back to our apartment and we could have just stayed there since it was like 8:00 and we didn't have a car, but we decided to walk down the street and knock a few doors. So we did, and no one talked to us, but on the way back we were in the opening of our apartment complex and someone called us over to their car. It was a member from a ward way south of ours and she tutors a family in our ward. This family is going through a divorce and she said the mom of the family doesn't want it to happen. The dad got baptized around a year ago and that is when he left his family. They are still married and stuff, so it is complex. He left his wife for a girl in our ward (which would be her ward), but we think she doesn't know about it. We talked with her for like 2 hours last night and it was way sweet. She opened up to us and it was awesome. We are going back tonight to meet her son and what not. Her son is a sophmore and plays football and he has been offered, or talked to, by many schools. One that he is considering is BYU, so we have an in there. It is going to be sweet. I think they will be baptized within 2 months. I'm excited to get to know them and teach them. It is a very complex story and just crazy and long to type right now. If I get more information this week I will type the rest next week.
But the reason I tell this is cuz it is amazing how the Lord works. If our car wouldn't have broke down then we wouldn't have been walking and we would have never been able to meet the member family and hear about this family that is legit. It is amazing everytime I think about it. There are days that I get so down and homesick, but sweet experiences like this, which happen a whole lot, just makes me want to be out here even more. It is going to be sweet I will let ya'll know how it goes.
Thanks for the sweet package. I have like 4 Dews left and yeah, the chips got smashed but we are eating them anyways. Thank you so much!
I think that is it for this week. I love you all, and hope you have a good week.
Love,
Elder Harvey
