Family,
It's good to hear how everyone is doing. The weather seems fun there in Cache Valley, and Brynn and Drew's house is looking good. Taking them forever but it is looking like it is coming along. I would like an all black Jeep by the way... with black rims and black everything... Don't forget I want a V8 for my engine. Ha ha!
Well this week was great... Austin is great. I really like the feel here in Austin, even though their famous saying is "Keep Austin Weird". It is starting to get cold here. Actually, the weather is just weird. I think last Thursday or Friday it was 76 degrees but yesterday and today it is 35... Plus when you have humidity like in Texas it is bone chillin' cold.
Elder Sherwood and I are having a great time. He makes the work fun, and it is a lot better when it is fun. He is a crazy dude. Last week for P-day we had a tri-zone dodge ball tournament with 80 missionaries or more. Well, to keep it short, we won, and him and I got the CO-MVP. We brought our team back and just started catching balls and we ended up winning it all. It was fun.
So I think this was one of our greatest weeks for church attendance. Just because we had a woman and her daughter come to church yesterday. We found them just knocking, and we have taught them twice. She now has a baptismal date for the 30th of January and so we are very excited about that. And we believe she liked church yesterday. She really cares about her daughter who is 16 and has a baby girl. And so families are huge for her and it is perfect because that is what our message is for.
We are working hard to try and get people to progress in the Gospel. But they don't like making the commitment to come to church or they say that they will and never do. But if they are elect then they will progress - that is the way I look at it.
So now for a crazy story and kind of disturbing. We contacted a guy about 2 weeks ago and he came to church last week. He is a little sketchy... He is older and he is like always checking us up and down - especially my companion. So we went over this last week and went in there just wanting to know if he was gay. He said he wasn't but that he has had feelings in the past... It was very awkward and let's just say that we aren't going back to teach him until he proves himself and comes to church at least 3 more times... I think my companion is traumatized.
I started a study today on the Atonement. The mission did it last year before I got here, but I found one of the packets. There are 10+ talks by General Authorities and assignments to do in the scriptures each day. I started it today, and I read a talk by James E. Faust titled "The Atonement: Our Only Hope". It was a great talk on the importance of the Atonement. It really is the center of everything we believe. Without it we wouldn't be able to do anything. As I studied it, it made me reflect on how much I need the Atonement in my everyday life. I am grateful for it, and I am grateful for the chance I had to come back out on a mission and take part in the Atonement and healing process. I still have a long ways to go but with the Atonement I can get there.
Have a great week. I love you all!
