Patience

Dad's note... Chris tells it like it is most of the time and we love him for it. I'm glad that he is learning patience, among other things.

His letter...

Transfer week is always exciting. This last transfer went real fast, and the calls came last night. I am.... staying here in Marble Falls. Elder Frei is staying with me as well. I figured that was what was going to happen since we have some good things going on. The Lord has been blessing us, and we are trying to reap more and more of his blessings each week. Elder Frei was pretty nervous and excited about the calls last night seeing how it was his second ones. I told him, "Elder, get used to it, they come a lot." But it was fun.

We continue to teach Camille and David in his tattoo shop. We went and spent a little time with them outside of teaching lesson at his shop the other day. I think we were good luck, about 6 people came in while we were there wanting a tattoo. We watched him give a guy one, and it blew my mind how fast people make decisions that are going to last them for forever. I asked him how much it costs him to give someone a tattoo and he said $5. And he charges about $150 an hour. So he is getting paid for his artistic skill, which he is real good at! But she is still on for baptism which is great, it will be on the 4th of June. They pretty much know everything, and they teach us when we go over which is the perfect investigator that missionaries search for.

The family that we found, we haven't met with them this last week. They are being weird and they wont set up a time with us, and tell us to text them this day and so we do and they say that they are busy or won't be home. I guess we will see how that goes this next week.

Katie didn't come to church yesterday, but we went by last night and set up an appointment. It will be a challenge to get her to change her ways of bar dancing and what not but the Spirit will do it. She is still reading The Book of Mormon and praying and so that is huge.

We didn't find anyone new this last week. People are great For example.. We knocked on this door and this 50 year old guy opened up. We told him who we were and he was like ok what do you offer or what do you want? And so we told him a little background of Joseph Smith and a living prophet and he goes, "I'm Catholic, I know other religions, and I don't need it." He said some other things but I can't remember them really. After he finishes saying that, because he said he knows other religions, Elder Frei decides to ask him if he has ever read The Book of Mormon. Remind you, I haven't really said anything and I'm just listening and being all chill and what not. Well Elder Frei asks the question, and this guy goes off on us. He was saying that we are disrespecting him by asking that question and coming to his door and all this stuff, while we are still listening, and he was adding a lot of F words into those sentences. Well he ends after about 5 minutes, about 20 F words and name callings, and he goes to close the door. As he does, me being me, I laughed a little bit and boy he did not like that. We turned around and he followed, saying things like "I will kick your A!" and other things that include the F word and the B words and all type of swear words. Well by now he has followed us out of his yard, past his driveway, and about 30 ft down the road, and he is going off and we haven't said anything. Now just picture this, a 50 year old guy, swearing and cussing and wanting to fight two 20 year old missionaries. What a joke right?! Well he yelled a lot of stuff as we were walking, and I wasn't going to stop and look at him because I tend to have a big mouth sometimes and I normally don't like when people are ridiculous for no reason, so I was just walking away holding my tongue. He then yells, "Boy, you need to respect your elders and look them in their eyes as they talk to you." Instantly I turned around and he gets 4 inches from my face and goes off once again with profanity. Turns out I just say, "Ok, sir, we're sorry" over and over as he is going off and then he ends, we walk away, and he goes back inside. It was pretty ridiculous and yet what a great experience. I've learned a lot of patience in this area, because obviously if I had said something he would have wanted to fight us and some stuff will happen and I would be coming home. But the Lord has helped me hold my tongue and I have learned a lot from that experience and other experiences with people like that. Patience, what a virtue!!

Burnet, TX had some storm's this last week. We were caught in the middle of one and we got some hail. This is the biggest one that we saw on the road, but they were on average golf ball sizes. It was pretty intense.

Hope all goes well in Wyoming, send my love for me. The work continues to roll forth. Thanks for all. Love you all!

Elder Harvey
